June 2010 - A word from the winemaker

At this time of the year, there is a lot of work to be done in the vineyard. Thanks to the right amount of rainfall, the growing cycle had advanced well over the last few weeks and therefore we have employed extra manpower to help us with the vine trellising.

The vineyards are looking beautifully and thanksfully have not been touvh by the recent hails storms in the region. The grape bunches are more numerous than last year, consequently we are in the process of removing a part of the bunches in order to get the concentration we are looking for. This process is particularly important for our high-end white "Maxime" and for all our Pinot noir.

Since a number of years, we let the natural herbs in the row and we work the soil between the vines in order not to have to use herbicides out of respect for our soils and environment. This year we will take further steps in our investment of working material and soil maintenance.

The commercialization of our Sancerre white, red and rose 2009 is a success with the qualitative notes of the vintage showing well: intense; fruity and gourmand bouquets.

The cuvee Maxime white 2009 is quickly selling out: being a wine for storing, it was purchased by the many amateurs for this wine. The cuvee Maxime red 2008 which follows the excellent 2007 vintage is already showing a magnificent Pinot Noir bouquet of red cherries. At the same time is keeps all of its acidity required for a good ageing potential. This wine charming and a serious terroir wine at the same time, shows subtle tannins and not too much alcohol is a lovely summer red.

Good tasting for everyone and we look forward to seeing you soon!

December 2009 - A Word from the Winemaker

Hot weather in late summer and autumn point to a 2009 vintage that will be among those to remember. Fermentation has just finished, a little later than usual, and the wine, which has a higher degree of residual sugar than in years precedent, promises to be all the more smoother and delicious in the mouth.

With its expressive notes of fruits and minerals, our white Domaine Vincent Delaporte Sancerre 2008 will make you want to pour another glass to savour. We especially recommend it with shellfish and fish dishes at your holiday celebrations.

As to my favourite wine of the season, the red Sancerre Cuvée Maxime 2007, we still have a few bottles left. This top-quality pinot noir has an excellent price/pleasure ratio.

Additionally, I must thank my son, Matthieu, for all his work on making it possible to purchase our wines online, via our website.

In between the regular updates that we send you about our winery, consider stopping by to see the domaine for yourself. The cellar door is open 7 days a week, with a member of the Delaporte family always present to welcome you and take you through a tasting of our wines.

All of our family at Domaine Vincent Delaporte wishes you joyful holidays and a happy 2010 !

Impressions of the Vintage

Distinguished by their aromas, the wines have a lot of presence on the palate. They show volume and power. Their potential for evolution is very good.

Again this year, the whites are very aromatic displaying the full range depending on their terroirs. Fruity and floral aromas mix with discrete vegetal notes displaying great finesse. With a frank acidity, they display a gustatory balance based on firmness. Thanks to the richness of the grapes, this vivacity is harmoniously balanced by a sucrosity and richness that fills the mouth.

In the red wines, we find aromas of red fruits (particularly cherry which was already noticeable in the must) completed by spicy notes. Their robes are beautifully deep ruby red with varying degrees of violet tints. Tannins are good quality: measured when the extractions were light for the wines to be consumed first, while for our Maxime cuvees reds, a prolonged maceration led to denser tannins.
The wine lovers will be able to discover the qualities of this wonderful vintage.
